Welcome!

The Princeton University Performing Arts Services usher program creates opportunities to support the arts and enjoy outstanding entertainment through volunteering.

Our program seeks a diverse group of music enthusiasts from our community who enjoy serving others while supporting the arts, and we are always on the lookout for good people to join us! Our ushers help support Princeton’s many wonderful performances and lectures throughout the year.

New Usher Training 

In order to participate in the upcoming current season, you are required to attend this meeting. You will receive valuable training and learn about new and updated policies.The cornerstone of Princeton’s volunteer usher program is the mandatory annual usher training meeting. Your attendance is required to participate in the current season as new policies are presented and valuable training takes place. Invitations for the annual fall training are sent to the usher staff in July.

Dress Code 

The dress code for the Princeton University usher staff requires a solid white collared shirt with solid black pants or skirt and black dress shoes,. You may wear a white jacket or sweater in colder months. Please do not wear additional clothing such as sweaters or ties of other colors or patterns. We advise you to wear comfortable dress shoes. Open toed shoes or sandals are not allowed as ushering requires a lot of standing and walking. Refrain from wearing excessive perfumes and colognes, hats, and scarves.

Physical Requriements

Ushers must be 18 years of age or older

  • Ushers must be friendly, outgoing, and professional

  • Ushers need to be able to meet the following physical requirements:

    1. Ascend and descend 39 steps quickly (to Richardson’s balcony, containing 60% of the auditorium’s seating)

    2. Stand independently for one hour continuously

    3. Have accurate vision in dim lighting (in order to read tickets)

    4. Be able to hear and speak clearly in areas with significant background noise (in order to answer patron questions)
